Recruited from the
Sturt Football Club as a key position prospect with selection no. 59 in the2004 AFL Draft , Copping mainly played in the WAFL reserves competition for East Perth in 2005. The nephew of former Essendon playerStephen Copping , by the end of 2006 he was earning a regular spot in defence in the league team.Copping was delisted at the end of the 2006 season without playing a senior game for Fremantle, however was redrafted with Fremantle's last round pick in the 2007 Rookie Draft.
