Estonia 's Sportsman of the Year. In 1980 Uudmäe's coachJaan Jürgenson was nominated as theUSSR Coach of the Year and Jaak himself as USSR Master Sportsman of the Year.Uudmäe's 1980 gold medal has been reported as an example of the Russian corruption of the officiating of the
1980 Summer Olympics .IAAF officials were not allowed on the field to oversee the event and its Russian officiating crew, while then world-record holderJoão Carlos de Oliveira ofBrazil and jumper Ian Campbell were called for fouls in nine out of twelve jump attempts.
