The home is open to the public and operated by the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home Foundation. On February 6, 2002, (Public Law 107-137), the United States Secretary of the Interior was authorized to purchase the property from the foundation and establish a national historic site. Once established, the site would presumably fall under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service.
The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 26, 1982.
