Kamara was born in
Kenema , Sierra Leone to Kono parents. Kamara playedcollege soccer at the Cal State Dominguez Hills. In his senior season, he was named third-team All-American. After spending two seasons withOrange County Blue Star in theUSL Premier Development League , Kamara was then taken by Columbus ninth overall at the2006 MLS SuperDraft .Kamara has been capped four times for Sierra Leone, the most recent being in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory vs. South Africa, in which he picked up a yellow card.
On September 30th, 2008 Kamara scored two goals for MLS champion Houston Dynamo against Mexican club
