Özkök is known for advocating modernization of Turkey, globalization, women's rights and Turkey's European Union accession. Özkök was born in İzmir a few years after his parents had to migrate to
Turkey . Both his father, who had made a name as a prominent printer of İzmir, and his mother are fromKardzhali ,Bulgaria . He graduated fromİzmir Namık Kemal Lisesi and did his university studies inParis ,France .Criticism
* Özkök is highly criticized and caricaturized in
Emin Çölaşan 's book, "I am fired, my comrades, don't forget me". He is depicted as the bulldog of his bossAydın Doğan and an editor who censors Çölaşan's articles in fear that AKP government would harm Aydın Doğan's business.External links
