Nick Nairn (born 12 January 1959, Stirling) is a Scottish celebrity chef.

Work

Nick Nairn is a chef, food consultant, television personality and spokesperson on diet, healthy eating and Scottish produce. Nick started his working life in the Merchant Navy, and having tasted food from all corners of the world, returned home to Scotland and tried his own hand at cooking. He found an untapped talent and, entirely self-taught, opened his first restaurant, Braeval, near Aberfoyle in 1986. By 1991 his work at Braeval won him the accolade of being Scotland’s youngest Michelin-starred chef. He opened Nairn's restaurant in Glasgow in 1997 also to international acclaim.

Nick has since become a regular on TV, appearing on BBC's popular Ready Steady Cook since the first series in 1994. He has also presented three BBC cookery series, Wild Harvest, Wild Harvest 2 and Nick Nairn and The Dinner Ladies, all with accompanying books. Nick has now published more than 10 cookery books with sales well in excess of 500,000. He defeated Tom Lewis in the Scottish heat of the BBC television series Great British Menu.[1] and went on to cook a main course of Roe venison for Queen Elizabeth II and 300 guests at the Mansion House for her official 80th birthday celebration.[2] In June 2007 he became the main presenter on the BBC Scotland programme Landward.[3] He handed over to Dougie Vipond at the start of the 2009 series, but continues to present inserts for the show. He also appears regularly on Saturday Kitchen and The One Show.

In 2003, he sold Nairn's, to concentrate on Nick Nairn Cook School (www.nicknairncookschool.com), his state-of-the-art Cook School on the shores of the Lake of Menteith in the Trossachs, where he teaches and is based. From here he runs Nick Nairn Consulting, a food consultancy business and has a signature restaurant The Kailyard by Nick Nairn at Doubletree by Hilton Dunblane Hydro Hotel. The consultancy is also in partnership with ex-servicemen and women charity Erskine, and oversees the Vanishing Willows cafe at the Erskine Garden Centre, Erskine Bridge.

Nick has a range of foods available to buy, including breakfast cereals, biscuits, breads, oatcakes and crumpets, sold in Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury's, with more food products in the pipeline. All foods are made to Nick's own recipes.

Nick lives in the Trossachs and is married with 2 children.
