The ward is formally known as simply St. Giles but, both for sake of clarity and to ensure continuity with proposed renaming of the ward in conjunction with boundary changes for the 2007 local elections, this article refers to the ward as "Desborough St. Giles".
The ward was last fought at Borough Council level in the 2003 local council elections, in which one seat each was won by Labour and the Conservatives, with the latter unseating former Labour Council Leader Richard Tod.
The current councillors are Cllr. David Coe (Labour)and Cllr. Michael Tebbutt (Conservative).
