genus ofankylosaurid (or possiblystegosauria n)dinosaur . It lived during theLate Cretaceous . Its fossils were found in theXinminbao Formation nearHeishan inGansu Province inChina . These fossils consist of fragmentary material, including spinal elements. The genus is occasionally misspelled as "Stegosauroides".Discovery and species
The
type species is "Stegosaurides excavatus", formally described byBirger Bohlin in 1953. It is currently a "nomen dubium " as the material is meagre; a couple of vertebrae and the base of a dermal spine.References
