extinct genus ofpareiasaur idanapsid reptile from thePermian period ofSouth Africa ,Tanzania , and possibly northernRussia . It was about 1.2 to 1.5 meters in length (3.9 to 4.9 ft), and weighed around 80 to 100kilogram s (176 to 220 lb). The skull was small, and the cheekbones unornamented as in other pareiasaurids.cite web |url=http://www.kheper.net/evolution/procolophonia/Pareiasauridae.htm |title=Pareiasauridae |accessdate=2007-10-09 |last=Kazlev |first=M. Alan |date=2005-07-05 |work=Kheper ]Richard Owen , who described "Anthodon", thought it was adinosaur because dinosaurian skull material from theEarly Cretaceous had become associated with the Permian material. The dinosaur material was later separated out byRobert Broom in 1912 and was renamed as the stegosaurid "Paranthodon " byFranz Nopcsa in 1929.cite web |url=http://www.dinosauria.com/dml/names/dinop.htm |title=Dinosauria Translation and Pronunciation Guide P |accessdate=2007-10-09 |last=Creisler |first=Ben |date=2003-07-07 |publiaher=Dinosauria On-Line |work=DOL Dinosaur Omnipedia ]References
