Gaskynd Granger was born in
Guyana and later settled inTrinidad and Tobago . He is the father ofGeddes Granger , and an uncle ofDavid A. Granger . In the 1930s he became a member of the Negro Welfare Cultural and Social Association. He was one of the founders of thePublic Works and Public Service Workers Trade Union that was formed in 1937 and served as a member of the Union's executive. He was also a member of theNational Union of Government Employees (NUGE). He was active inTobago as a member of theTobago Peasants and Industrial Workers Union which was founded byA.P.T. James in 1946.During his life, he collected the
Gaskynd Granger Papers . The collection includes a miscellany of documents: acts, booklets, bulletins, correspondence, financial statements, handwritten minutes, invitations, memos, miscellaneous forms, newspaper clippings, reports.Mr. Granger gave the papers to Dr. Susan Craig-James, former Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Social Sciences,
The University of the West Indies , St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, who donated them to the University's Library in 1993.
