Glenbard South High School, or GSHS is a public four-year high school located in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. It is part of Glenbard Township High School District 87. The smallest of the 4 Glenbard Township High Schools, South draws it's students from southern Glen Ellyn (primarily south and southwest of Illinois Route 38), and portions of unincorporated Glen Ellyn, and a small portion of Lombard. It is among the top-ranked public high schools in Illinois.

History

Glenbard South was the fourth of the Glenbard high schools built. It opened in 1972. The capacity of the building is 1500, but with additions, could actually house 2500 students. There used to be no windows, except in the library, the art rooms, and some hallways, but there are now windows in the towers as well. Because of this fact, it is rumored that Glenbard South was previously a jail but the school states that the lack of windows was for energy conservation.

Press

Glenbard South's school newspaper appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for misspelling the slogan, "If you can't beat them, then they are not tied down properly. If you still can't beat them, then accept that they better than you." Leno laughed at this.Fact|date=February 2008
