"I'll Wait" is a song by Van Halen off their album "1984". It was the second single released from the album and went to #13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Like "Jump", this song is driven almost entirely by keyboards, including a synthesizer bass line. The song is somewhat known for its similar sound to other 1980s pop group Genesis. David Lee Roth and producer Ted Templeman wanted the song left off the album, while Edward Van Halen and Donn Landee wanted it on and pushed for its inclusion. The song's writing is the result of an unlikely collaboration of Van Halen & Doobie Brothers singer Michael McDonald.

The song is about a girl wearing men's underwear in a Calvin Klein ad and Dave penned the lyrics while looking at the ad while it was tacked onto his Sony Trinitron TV. [http://www.classicvanhalen.com/albums_1984.shtml] This was probably the closest the Roth-incarnation of Van Halen ever came to a love song.
