Australia participated in the 2006 Winter Paralympics in Turin, Italy. Ten people competed, Australia's largest ever Winter Paralympic contingent. Australia took part in alpine skiing and nordic skiing (consisting of biathlon and cross-country skiing), but not ice sledge hockey or wheelchair curling.

Emily Jansen, a below-knee amputee skier, was Australia's first female Winter Paralympian. James Millar, who was born without his right forearm, was the first Paralympic cross-country skier for Australia since Peter Rickards in 1980. Millar also competed in biathlon. Michael Milton attended his last Paralympics, after which he will focus on speed skiing.

Paralympians of different levels of disability, who previously competed separately, competed together at these games. This change, along with the retirement of Bart Bunting, lead to the Australian team setting a target of two medals, even though seven were won in the previous Paralympics.
