Intti

Intti

Intti is a slang term referring to the Finnish Army, in particular to the compulsory national service. The origin of the term stems from the fact that when the Finnish Army was founded, all property was marked by stamps reading "SA-INT", which stood for "Suomen Armeijan Intendentuuriosasto", or Finnish Army Commissariat. As the soldiers saw the stamp on all equipment, they began to refer to the army itself as "intti". The SA-INT stamp itself has long since been replaced by a logo in the shape of a castle tower, but the phrase has remained as a popular term amongst serving and discharged conscripts.

The US-Uncle Sam association and "GI" as a term denoting an American soldier derive from a similar route.
