- Intti
Intti is a slang term referring to the
Finnish Army , in particular to the compulsory national service. The origin of the term stems from the fact that when the Finnish Army was founded, all property was marked by stamps reading "SA-INT", which stood for "Suomen Armeijan Intendentuuriosasto", or Finnish ArmyCommissariat . As the soldiers saw the stamp on all equipment, they began to refer to the army itself as "intti". The SA-INT stamp itself has long since been replaced by alogo in the shape of a castle tower, but the phrase has remained as a popular term amongst serving and discharged conscripts. The US-
Uncle Sam association and "GI" as a term denoting an American soldier derive from a similar route.
