Wazirzada

Wazirzada: Implies son of Wazir. Descendants of the Grand Wazirs of the Sadozai Dynasty in Afghanistan. Wazirzadas are Sadozai Durranis; also a sub tribe of Popalzais and therefore belong to the Abdali group of tribes.

Brig.(R) Rashid H.(2002) has delved extensively on the history of Wazirzadas and traced their family tree from their origin in Afghanistan to the present times and present locations. The present known Wazirzadas are the descendants of two sons of Vizier Rehmathullah Khan; who was the Grand Vizier to Shah Zaman Khan, King of Afghanistan; grandson of Ahmed Shah Abdali. Vizier Rehmathullah Khan belonged to the prominent tribe of Kamran Khel Sadozais. His father Fathehullah Khan was the Grand Vizier to King Shah Taimur Son of Ahmed Shah Abdali and Fathehullah Khan's father Haroon Khan was an Advisor to the great Durrani King; Ahmed Shah Abdali. Vazier Rehmathullah Khan was killed along with his two brothers in 1801 in Afghanistan in an uprising in which Shah Zaman was removed from the throne and replaced with his half brother Shah Mahmud. The Vizier's two sons; Wazirzada Habibullah Khan and Wazirzada Usman Khan; protected by their maternal grandfather made it to safety. The descendants of Wazirzada Usman Khan have mostly settled in Peshawar, Pakistan and the descendants of Wazirzada Habibullah Khan have mainly settled in Dera Ismail Khan in Pakistan. Wazirzada Usman Khan later served as the Grand Vizier in the court of the Afghan King Shah Sujah; and was given the title of Nizam Ud Daulah.

Saddozai W.A.Q.K. (2000) has traced the history of Wazirzadas as they were driven by fate to settle in the north western part of India which later on formed part of Pakistan. Wg.cdr. (R) Saddozai S.A.S.J.'s yet to be published book throws further light on the descendants of Wazirzada Usman Khan's progeny. A number of Wazirzadas have served in the military and attained prominent positions while others reached coveted positions in the government. During recent years a number of Wazirzada families have shifted to Islamabad; the capital of Pakistan.

Prominent Wazirzadas

1. Nizam-ud-daula Wazir Usman Khan: S/O Vizier Rehmathullah Khan. Remained as Governor of Jalalabad and later was appointed as Vizier to Shah Shuja the last Saddozai king of Afghanistan. Born in 1790s and died in 1865.

2. Wazirzada Sardar Muhammad Abbas Khan: Eldest son of Nizam-ud-daula Wazir Usman Khan from his first wife. Was appointed as the Governor of Kabul and later Governor of Khandahar Province during the rule of Shah Sujah (1839 to 1842). Born in 1819 and died in 1890's.

3.Wazirzada Sardar Muhammad Zaman Khan: Second son of Nizam-ud-daula Wazir Usman Khan from his first wife. Was appointed as the Governor of Jalalabad during the rule of Shah Sujah (1839 to 1842). Born in 1821 and died in 1877.

4.Wazirzada Sardar Muhammad Akbar Khan: Eldest son of Nizam-ud-daula Wazir Usman Khan from his second wife. Was appointed as the Governor of Laghman Province during the rule of Shah Sujah (1839 to 1842). Born in 1833 and died in 1901

5. Colonel Nawab Sir Wazirzada Sardar Muhammad Afzal Khan,K.C.S.I: Third S/O Nizam-ud-daula Wazir Usman Khan from his second wife. Appointed as the British envoy in the court of Amir Abdur Rehman; ruler of Afghanistan in 1882. On his return from Afghanistan he was given the title of 'Nawab' and appointed as the ADC to the Viceroy in 1886. Born in 1835 and died in 1896.

6. Colonel Nawab Sir Wazirzada Sardar Muhammad Aslam Khan, O.M, K.C.I.E., K.C.V.O, A.D.C to King Edward VII and King George V: Youngest S/O Nizam-ud-daula Wazir Usman Khan from his second wife. Was given the title of 'Sardar Bahadur' during the second Afghan war. Also given the title of 'Nawab' in 1887. The most distinguished personality of Peshawar in his time. First Commandandant of Khyber Rifle Corp. Born in 1838 and died 1914.

7. Brigadier Sir Wazirzada Sardar Hissamudin Khan,O.B.E, C.I.E, K.C.I.E, I.D.S.M, H.Q.A: S/O Colonel Nawab Sir Wazirzada Sardar Aslam Khan. Received the Indian Distinguished Services Medal I.D.S.M. Awarded a C.I.E in 1925. Awarded the title of 'Khan Bahadur' in 1931 and was knighted in 1933. Appointed as the C-in-C and Defence Minister of the Bhopal State government; 1940-1946. Honorary ADC to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and all subsequent Governor Generals. Awarded Hilal-e-Quaid-e-Azam HQA by the Ayub Khan government. Born on 1st January 1881 and died in 1960.

8. Brigadier Sardar Ahmed Jan Saddozai, M.B.E: Eldest son of Brigadier Sir Wazirzada Sardar Hissamudin Khan. His initial military training was conducted in the Academy at Dera Doon and was later trained at the prestigious Military Academy at Sandurst. He was appointed as the first Pakistani Inspector General Frontier Crop and Commanding officer of 14th Punjab. Born on 12 October 1905 and died in 1978. 9. Wazirzada Sardar Gul Muhammad Khan Saddozai: S/O Wazirzada Noor Muhammad Khan and grandson of Wazirzada Habibullah Khan brother of Nizam-ud-daula Wazir Usman Khan. He was a prominent lawyer and took active part in Pakistan movement. He was elected the President of Bannu District Muslim League in 1944. Gave up the title of 'Khan Bahadur' and 'Khan Sahib' when called upon by the supreme leader; Muhammad Ali Jinnah. After creation of Pakistan remained as Member Provincial and Federal Public Service Commissions. Awarded the Pakistan Movement Medal postumously in 1987. Born in 1898 and died in April 1958.

10. Wazirzada Sardar Abdul Qaiyum Khan Saddozai: Eldest S/O Wazirzada Sardar Gul Muhammad Khan. A prominent Civil Servant; was appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner and Senior member Board of Revenue for N.W.F.P Province. Was appointed as the Revenue Minister for N.W.F.P during Caretaker government of Prime Minister Moeen Qureshi in 1993. Born on 15 May 1926 and died on 21 August 1995.

11. Wazirzada Muhammad Yaqub Khan Saddozai: Second S/O Wazirzada Sardar Gul Muhammad Khan. Joined the Pakistan Civil Aviation and rose to the top position of Director General. He put forward the case for converting the Civil Aviation Department into an Authority and was sussessful in this endeavor. He was later selected by the International Civil Aviation Organisation as Head of their Asia Pacific Regional Office at Bangkok. Born 2 February 1927 and died 18 January 2003.

12. Wazirzada Muhammad Ayub Khan Saddozai: Third S/O Wazirzada Sardar Gul Muhammad Khan. He was an Electrical Engineer by profession. He joined the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA)early on and was one of the founding members of a major public sector consultancy group; The National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK). Through his dilgence he rose to the level of Member Power. Born in 1929 and died in 1991.

13.Wazirzada Muhammad Idrees Khan Saddozai: The youngest S/O Wazirzada Sardar Gul Muhammad Khan. He is an Electrical Engineer by profession. He joined the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA)and gained valuable experience. He established a successful business delivering high value infrastructural projects. He served as a Member of the Managing Committee of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 1987-88 and was the Founder President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry D. I. Khan from 1986-89. He was appointed at the prestigious position of the Vice Chancellor of the Gomal University in 2003.
