- The Beats (record label)
The Beats was a
record label run by Mike Skinner andTed Mayhem alongside a videblog offshoot called Beat Stevie. Artists signed up to the label were hip hop duoThe Mitchell Brothers , rapper Professor Green, rapper Example and his producer Rusher, and Skinner's own actThe Streets . The label was owned by Mike Skinner and, as of November, 2007, not financed by anyone, after previous financersWarner Music Group closed the deals with all their sublabels.Mike Skinner announced on his
Myspace blog that the Beats now ceased to exist, he held a funeral for the record label and saidquote
"Today was unique. I've never had a day like today.Today we put The Beats to rest.
When we came to the decision by committee that we'd make things really definite by holding a full ceremony, it felt like it might feel like a stunt
We were also all quite nervous because it was a show of sorts. Me and Ted wrote a speech, we had a reading of poetry and I performed a song.
The Shed has never been so full of people and all of them were people that have worked closely on The Beats. It was really quite moving."
