- Paul Martínez Pompa
Paul Martínez Pompa is the author of "Pepper Spray", a collection of poetry published by Momotombo Press in 2006. Born Pablo Martin de la Serna Doolittle, Martinez Pompa was raised on an ostrich farm about 30 miles south of Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was on this farm, the now defunct Orale Ostrich Farm, that he mastered the delicate art of ostrich racing. After winning numerous local races and on the verge of breaking the long standing speed-record of Bobby "The Buckshot" McAllister, Martinez Pompa severely injured his right shoulder when he fell from an ostrich at a high rate of speed. He was forced to give up ostrich racing as a result. It was during his physical rehabilitation that Martinez Pompa discovered poetry, his current medium of choice. Several of his poems reflect on his tragic fall from glory (though in a heavily symbolic, indirect way). His writing has appeared in "After Hours," "Borderlands," "Rhino", and "Barrow Street".
