Robert Vernon Denney (1916 – 1981) was a
Nebraska Republican politician.He was born in
Council Bluffs, Iowa on April 11, 1916 and graduated fromFairbury High School in 1933. He attendedPeru State Teachers College and theUniversity of Nebraska from 1933 to 1936, and graduated fromCreighton University 's School of Law in 1939.He practiced law in
Fairbury, Nebraska and then became a special agent forFederal Bureau of Investigation serving inWashington, D.C. andChicago . He enlisted in theUnited States Marine Corps in October 1942 with the First Armored Amphibian Battalion. He remained active inUnited States Marine Corps Reserve until 1960 and retired with rank of lieutenant colonel.He resumed practice of law in Fairbury becoming Jefferson County attorney and Fairbury city attorney. He was chairman of the Jefferson County Republican, and then chairman Nebraska Republican Party. He was elected to the Ninetieth and
Ninety-first United States Congress es serving from January 3, 1967 to January 3, 1971. He did not run for reelection to theNinety-second United States Congress . He was appointed United States District Court Judge in 1971. He resided inOmaha, Nebraska where he died on June 26, 1981 and was buried in Fairbury Cemetery, in Fairbury.He was a member of the
Presbyterian Church, theAmerican Bar Association , theAmerican Legion ,Veterans of Foreign Wars ,Phi Sigma Kappa , theFreemasons ,Knights Templar (Freemason degree) , theShriners and the Lions.ee also
