Recent Noteworthy Events

2006 Guangdong Province Educational Technology Buyers' Summit

In June of 2006, IATT hosted a high-level delegation from the Guangdong Province Department of Education, visiting North America at summit meetings arranged by IATT in Toronto, ON; Washington, DC and San Jose, CA. Highlights included meetings with representatives from Discovery Communications, the [http://www.oraclefoundation.org Oracle Education Foundation] and Adobe Systems among other ISTE 100 companies. ISTE was a co-organizer of the summit, designed to introduce leading educational technology companies in North America to potential buyers in China.

First Sino-American Forum of Intellectual Property Rights

Efforts in 2005 to forge a partnership with the Patent Protection Association of China [http://ppac.org.cn/en/ (PPAC)] under the direction of China’s State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) resulted in the first-ever "Sino-American Forum of Intellectual Property Rights", held in China’s booming Pearl River Delta. [editor. [http://www.glosk.com/CH/Macao/-2657867/pages/Dongguan/69794_en.htm "Dongguan - Foreign Direct Investment"] , "Glosk.com", November, 2006]

“IP continues to be a critical issue between China and the West, but what is especially exciting about this forum is the growing importance Chinese business leaders place on their own intellectual property. SIPO is racing toward half-a-million patent applications in 2005, 80% filed domestically – and the greatest number coming from the Pearl River Delta. Ultimately, Chinese business’ urging of the central government to protect IP rights will make a difference, because now it’s in everyone’s best interests.” (David McKnight, IATT president – speaking with a reporter from CCTV-9 in China, October 2005)

2005 China Educational Technology Conference & Expo

During the same timeframe, and with its EdTech association partner ISTE [Knezek, Don.
