Academic Team

Skyview has long had one of the most successful Academic Teams in the state of Montana. Skyview is the 14 time defending state KMO Champion and has won the Big Sky Regional Science Bowl Championship three times; most recently in 2007.

2007 Big Sky Regional Science Bowl Championship

Skyview sent two teams to join the rest of the 23-team field who were all vying for first place and the opportunity to compete at the National Science Bowl Tournament in Washington D.C. The 23 teams were randomly broken up into four divisions within which the teams would compete against each other in a round-robin format. Both Skyview teams were drawn into the division of only 5 teams.

The top two teams from each round robin division would advance to an eight-team double elimination tournament. Skyview A went undefeated in round robin play and Skyview B's only loss came to Skyview A. The two teams advanced to the later rounds along with Billings West, Fergus County, Havre A & B, and Conrad. Skyview B tied for seventh as they lost their only two bracketed matches.

Skyview A first faced crosstown rival Billings West. West beat Skyview on the last question of the match, the first time West had ever beaten Skyview in Science Bowl. Knowing that the next game they lost would be their last, Skyview A won four matches in a row to advance to the third-place match where they convincingly defeated Conrad to advance to face the defending regional champions, Fergus County.

The Fergus team, coming into the match undefeated on the day, boasted 4 returning members from the defending regional championship team; however, that did not save them. Skyview won the first match to send the tournament into sudden death for the championship. The game was close for most of the first half with Skyview leading by a mere 18 points at half. But as the second half progressed Skyview built a commanding lead and won the match quite decisively.

Skyview A won seven matches in a row to win the school's first Big Sky Regional Championship since 2003, and won the right to compete at the National Science Bowl Tournament in Washington D.C. to be held in late April.
