Great Ponton

Great Ponton is a village of around 200 houses in South Kesteven in south Lincolnshire.

It is approximately three miles south of Grantham. It is situated on the A1. There is a Texaco garage at the "Ponton Main Service Station" on the north-bound carriageway, a short distance after a speed camera. The only shop is at the service station. The Blue Horse village pub is on the south-bound carriageway. There is a [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/694180 primary school] on "Mill Lane". The church is [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/164591 Holy Cross] . The River Witham [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/694161 passes] just to the east near the railway.

There are two speed cameras situated on the [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/393011 A1] near Great Ponton, on the north and south bound carriageway.

A footbridge provides pedestrian access from the west of the village to the east over the A1. Great Ponton located within a stretch of the A1 notorious for being an accident blackspot.

Nearby villages include Stoke Rochford, Stroxton and Little Ponton. To the east is the River Witham and the East Coast Main Line. There was once a Great Ponton railway station, but it is now closed.
