Aviv Ron

Aviv Ron is an Israeli conductor who has led the Israel Chamber Orchestra Ramat-Gan, Israel’s oldest chamber orchestra, for ten years.

Aviv Ron is a graduate of the Rubin Academy of Music, Tel Aviv University. He studied with Shalom Ronli-Riklis and Noam Sheriff. After his studies in Israel he went to Vienna for postgraduate studies at the Wiener Musikhochschule with Karl Oesterreicher. Aviv Ron participated in international conducting courses in Israel, Switzerland and France. In 1995 he was a finalist at the first International Conducting Competition for Modern Music in Massy, France.

During his time in Austria Aviv Ron was the Musical Assistant of Maestro Claudio Abbado at "Le Nozze di Figaro" and "Don Giovanni" (Wiener Festwochen 1991) and of Sir George Solti at "Falstaff" (Salzburger Osterfestspiele 1993).

Having a special interest in modern classical music and modern opera Aviv Ron founded MOM, the "Musiktheater Opus Modern", an ensemble mainly set up of students from the Musikhochschule Vienna, with the aim of staging contemporary operas. In spring 1992 he conducted the world premier of the opera "The Dying Man". This opera is based on a text by Karl Kraus and has been composed especially for the "Musiktheater Opus Modern" by the Israeli composer Sharon Eitan. Aviv Ron also staged with his ensemble the Austrian premier of Wolfgang Fortners "That Time", a composition of a text by Samuel Beckett. Also

Also in his position as Musical Director and Principal Conductor of Israel Chamber Orchestra Ramat-Gan he supports contemporary classical music. In 2000 the Cultural Minister honored Aviv Ron with a special award for performing Israeli music.

On an invitation by Maestro Gary Bertini, Aviv Ron took up the position of Assistant Conductor at New Israeli Opera, Tel Aviv in the 1994/95. In 1997/98 he held the position as Chorus Master at the New Israeli Opera.

Conducted the world premiere of the opera "Dear Son of Mine" (Music: Chaim Permont, Libretto: Talma Elyagon), a co-production of the New Israeli Opera and Israel Festival 2000. In winter 2000 conducted, arranged and edited a special version of "Carmen" for the New Israeli Opera.
