Social defence

Social defence

The term "social defence" is used to describe different forms of non-military action.

* Nonviolent action, or more specifically civilian-based nonviolent defence, is partially synonymous with "social defence" in the works of George Lakey (USA) and Brian Martin (Australia).
* Civil resistance is a similar term which aims to cast civilian-based nonviolent defence in a wider social context.
* Total Defence, the Singapore government's civil defence / national security policy, uses "social defence" as a synonym for social inclusion policies.
