Get Rhythm

"Get Rhythm" is a 1956 rockabilly song, written and recorded by Johnny Cash. The song is about optimism, centering on a shoeshine boy who "gets rhythm" to cope with the tedious nature of his job. It was his first number one single on the country charts.

"Get Rhythm" was also covered by Ry Cooder on an album of the same name, released in 1987.

In 1991, Martin Delray recorded a cover of the song on his debut album, also entitled "Get Rhythm". "Get Rhythm" was covered by Joaquin Phoenix, for the Johnny Cash biopic "Walk the Line", in which Phoenix plays Cash. The film also features a scene where Cash sees a shoeshine boy, one of many references to Johnny Cash songs in the film.

Reverend Horton Heat also covered the song in 2002. It can be found on the compilation "Dressed in Black: A Tribute To Johnny Cash".
