- Gift (film)
"Gift" is a movie, released in 1993, made by
Perry Farrell andCasey Niccoli that features Farrell's band,Jane's Addiction . It is a romantic tragedy, with gothic and drug themes. "Gift" was released byWarner Brothers .It is a love story centered on the theme of "What would you do if you came home and found the person you loved the most in the world lying dead on the floor?". "Gift" has some very surreal moments, and makes a statement about the nature of love, joy, and loss.
The following Jane's Addiction songs are featured in the soundtrack:
* "Stop"
* "Classic Girl"
* "Ain't No Right"
* "Of Course"
* "Three Days"All of the filming for the movie took place around the time of the recording sessions for
Ritual de lo Habitual in 1990.One of the last scenes in the film includes
Ice-T andBody Count playing withJane's Addiction in a version of a Sly and the Family Stone song, "Don't call me Nigger, whitey."This is the semi-autobiographical movie created by Casey Niccoli and Perry Farrell. The movie is quite odd to watch, because it mixes some history of the two with some fantasy, thus it has caused much confusion to fans. The movie is not real, only minor parts of it have any factual basis. The entire band of Jane's Addiction can be found in the movie, but only briefly.
A highly edited version of this film was shown on MTV as Scenes from Gift, and the videos for Classic Girl and Ain't No Right (Live) came from this movie. The LaserDisc version of this movie was only released in Japan. There are Japanese subtitles that cannot be turned off in the picture, but the audio is in English. Also, in the nude scenes, genetallia has been blurred out due to pubic hair being taboo in Japan. The LaserDisc version appears up on eBay every so often.
There has been renewed talked about a possible DVD release of this movie along with the Soul Kiss video. Prior rumors about a DVD release turned out to be for the movie The Gift.
