Andrew R. Heinze is a writer and scholar of
American history .Currently residing in New York City, he was on the faculty of the
University of San Francisco from 1993 until 2006, where he was Professor of U. S. History and Director of theSwig Judaic Studies Program . Heinze grew up inMatawan, New Jersey , graduating fromBlair Academy in Warren County. He received his B.A.Magna Cum Laude fromAmherst College (1977) and he received his M.A. and Ph.D. (1987) inAmerican History from theUniversity of California, Berkeley .His book "Jews and the American Soul: Human Nature in the Twentieth Century" was named one of the “Best Books of 2004” by
Publishers Weekly .His articles have appeared in the
Journal of American History , theAmerican Quarterly ,Religion and American Culture , and many other professional journals, as well as in newspapers, magazines and on-line publications.Bibliography
