Paulus episcopus Vilnensis, dux Olschanensis ( _lt. 'Povilas Alšėniškis'; ca. 1485 [The date is uncertain and some sources cite 1486 or even 1436, the latter probably being an error] - September 4, 1555, Vilnius [ Lietuviškoji tarybinė enciklopedija. Born to Orthodox Prince Aleksander Holszański, the Castellan of Vilnius, and Zofia Sudymuntowiczównapl icon Rita Regina Trimoniene: " [http://www.bialorus.pl/index.php?secId=49&docId=77&&Rozdzial=historia Polityka jagiellońska a kształtowanie się litewskiego narodu politycznego w końcu XV - I połowie XVI wieku] "] , between 1507 and 1536 he served as Bishop of Łuck (modern Lutsk, Ukraine) and then between March 15, 1536, and his death as Bishop of Vilnius.

During his term as bishop, Holszański created several dozen new parishes in the Polish-Lithuanian borderlands.
