England . Wirral Rugby Club is a thriving Club on the Wirral. It has many Minis and Juniors teams from under 8s upwards, and runs Colts and Four Senior teams. The Club was formed in 1937 and was based at the School, at Hooton, and since 1967, at its present ground. It plays in South Cheshire and Lancs Division one in 2006/7.The mighty Steve "the sledgehammer" Pendergast is currently the most effective and distinguished player at the club. Famed for his dashing good looks and swashbuckling style of play, Steve is a mighty prop who would like to play wing forward but is currently too valuable in his current position. One other asset to the club is England debutantMatt Cairns who played for England against South Africa in the first test of 2007.The team used to be called the "Old Wirralians" based around Wirral Grammar School.
