next_route=125Highway 124 is an east-west highway in
Ontario east ofGeorgian Bay connecting Parry Sound to Sundridge. It is 76 km (48 miles) in length, including a 15.5 km (9.7 mile) concurrency with Highway 520.Highway 124 is one of several highways connecting the Highway 11 and Highway 69/400 (the two endpoints) corridors between Barrie and Highway 17. The route is generally lightly travelled, primarily serving local communities along the corridor. Besides Highway 520, only one other provincial highway - Highway 510 - is encountered along the route.
There are no large communities along the route between Parry Sound and Sundridge, however there are several small communities including Waubamik, McKellar, Dunchurch and Ahmic Harbour.
Most of the communities are built around
tourism which has increased in recent years due to the growth in the number ofcottage s in the area (primarily due to overflow from theMuskoka region). The area is also somewhat of a smallBible Belt and there are manychurch es and religious organizations along Highway 124.By
2012 , Highway 124 will be extended eastward about 14 km (8.5 miles) through Sundridge and South River as a new Highway 11 freeway bypass is built.References
