Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap
- Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap
The Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap is an American race for Thoroughbred horses set at a distance of six furlongs on the dirt at Saratoga Race Course. The Grade II Vanderbilt is open to three year olds and up of either gender, and carries a purse of $200,000.
Called the A Phenomenon Handicap before 2000, the race is now named for Alfred G. Vanderbilt II, a devotee of horse racing. The New York Turf Writers honored Vanderbilt by voting him as “The Man Who Did The Most for Racing,” a record four times.
The Vanderbilt will be in its 25th running in 2009.
