- Vinger Royal Road
The Vinger Royal Road (or "Eskoleia") provided an established road leading both north and south from the Swedish border. During the early
medieval period, pilgrims traveled to the shrine ofSt. Olaf atTrondheim ; those from Sweden passed viaEidskog , Vinger (nowKongsvinger ) andElverum up theGlomma river valley. Alternately they could travel downriver southwest towardOslo . This important pilgrimage & trade route is mentioned byAdam of Bremen in 1070 AD.
