Suhayl ibn Amr

Suhayl ibn Amr was a prominent man among the Quraish, being known as the "khatib" or orator of the tribe.

Biography

He was one of the leaders of Mecca [http://www.mpacuk.org/content/view/211/ MPACUK ] ] .

On his way from the visit, Muhammad asked Akhnas for protection, but he refused .

Prior to becoming Muslim he played a major role in concluding the famous Treaty of Hudaybiyya.

After the Conquest of Mecca it is said that he accepted Islam sincerely.

He also used his skills as orator to calm the people of Mecca following the Prophet's death. Suhayl later participated in the Battle of Yarmuk against the Byzantines in Syria. Following the conquest of the Sham region, he decided to remain in the area instead of returning to Mecca. He died in Palestine in the small village of 'Amawas near Jerusalem.
