Pannenkoeken

Pannenkoeken

Pannenkoeken are Dutch pancakes, yet unlike the usual American pancake, Pannenkoeken are usually larger and thinner and sometimes incorporate slices of smoked bacon, or apple and raisins for example. Plain pannekoeken are often eaten with white or brown sugar. The ingredients are flour, milk, and eggs. Beer may also be added to the mixture in order to give it a better flavour, but most of all it helps air the pannekoek. In Dutch pancake restaurants there are many more things you can order on it, like eggs, pear, or even pineapple.

Pannenkoeken Huis (Pancake House) was an 11 restaurant chain in Minnesota which filed for bankruptcy and closed in 1996 with the exception of a few out state franchisees. Around 2003 three new Pannekoeken Huis restaurants opened in the Twin Cities. Pannekoeken is also the name of a restaurant in Fargo, North Dakota. De Dutch Pannekoek House is a small restaurant chain in British Columbia.
