USS Scorpion

USS "Scorpion" may refer to one of six vessels of the United States Navy:

*, a block sloop that was part of Joshua Barney's Chesapeake Bay flotilla in the War of 1812
*, a schooner serving on the upper Great Lakes in the War of 1812
*, a bark-rigged steamer of the Mexican-American War
*, a patrol yacht in service from 1898 to 1927
*, a "Gato"-class submarine, lost during World War II
*, a "Skipjack"-class submarine, lost in a Cold War accident

In fiction

A fictitious USS "Scorpion" plays an important role in Nevil Shute's post-apocalyptic novel "On The Beach", though the film versions of the novel change the submarine's name ("Sawfish" in the 1959 version, "Charleston" in the 2000 remake).
