- Bride (parish)
Bride ( _gv. Bride), named after
St Bridget , is a parish in theSheading ofAyre and lies in the extreme north of theIsle of Man . The parish lies to the east ofAndreas and to the north ofLezayre , bordering the sea to the east. The parish covers an area of about 9 sq miles.The population, according to the 2006 census, is 418 (2001 408)
The northern coast of Bride is adorned with sandhills crossing the parish from Point Cranstal from which a good view is obtained of the Manx mountains as well as of the Scottish and Cumbrian mountains (with the
Solway Firth in between). TheGalloway coast is about 18 miles away. At thePoint of Ayre is a 100 footlighthouse . On old maps Point Cranstal is referred to as "Shellack Poynt" and a small village named Cranston is marked close to it, but has long since disappeared. North of Bride is Blue Point which once had a target range connected to R.A.F. Andreas with a moving target line.References
