Northern England , coming from a family of designers, DJ Stormz also known as STORMZ/THE STORM/TOOFAN/ is known for his hard hittingBhangra show on Sky Digital Akash Radio, and worldwide on the internet. Stormz has increased his listenership, after playing eastern dnb on his shows, which is rare on national radio. The show is listened to by many listeners fromNorway ,Germany ,Canada , theUnited States ,Spain ,Italy and the UK through the internet, and Sky Digital. Within his first two years at the station it was nominated twice for an Asian music award at the AMAs in the UK. Stormz continues to support the Asian scene with his radio show, which is heard by listeners of many ages, he has also been pushing the urban side of the Asian scene from his early days of working as a presenter artists such as Sona family, due to the lack of support within the scene for young Asian artists, this has led him to setting up his 2nd labelToofan Entertainment which is aimed at helping pure homegrown talent within the Asian scene be pushed forward.This in time will deliver UK & worldwide Asian artists music to the worldwide Bhangra/Asian fanbase, with his own debut Bhangra album being released on the label as well as its roster of artists, more at Toofanentertainment.comBesides djing Bhangra/Asian dnb, Stormz also continues to dj hip hop rnb and ragga music which he previously did before working on the Asian scene in the UK. He first started mixing and recording music from TV and film soundtracks, on tapes which he would mix tape to tape and then take to school with him, age (8), his early influences included rap, soul, and jazz, acid house, and other genres that evolved during that period.Getting his first set of decks at the age of 17, Stormz started mixing Hip Hop RnB beats with Ragga Accapellas, to make mixtapes and sell them.When Jungle music first emerged, Stormz would go and get vinyl records for the local barber who was a key figure (DJ) within the DnB scene in the northwest. This led him to be influenced to djing jungle dnb, then around early 1993, Stormz would start to include Eastern DnB within his jungle DnB sets and mixtapes. After hosting a few dnb and hip hop nights, and completing his studies in Graphic Arts, Stormz moved to the south of England to work in music and design, and the setting up of his labels.
RADIO
Stormz first made his debut in radio in the pirate radio scene in the northwest of England. This is something he wanted to do as young as age 8. His debut on Akash Radio (Southall Uk) in 2002 on Sky Digital and on the internet led him to gaining various slots in the early hours of the morning, leading him to the prime time slots. Through this his show has also been broadcast in Leeds and in London.Creating the term 'Desi Soundclash' to sum up the sound of east and western music he was playing out on radio and roadshow. The show is presented via Sky Digital, the internet, and also on mobile phones. Desi Soundclash Show has gained a reputation for its straight to the point music exposure/mixtape show playing and mixing Bhangra, Hindi, and Urban Asian music non stop with shout outs and dedications from listeners tuning in.His recent interviews included Silinder Pardesi, and Mc Special in 2008.He has also been quick to represent some of the new talent supporting them in their early stages of their career, artists such as Navin Kundra, D 'Luscious, Jay Sean, Sona Family, Usmaan, Ishq B, Kidd Skilly, D'Luscious was spotted by Stormz around 2004 playing her hit tracks from her first album, eventually D 'luscious would make her name on the Jazzy B, track 'I Love You' from his album 'Rambo'in 2008
The show has also been broadcasted on FM in Leeds and the surrounding areas as well as Soutrhall and West London. The show is now broadcasted on mobile phones as of June 2008, streamed live, on akashradio.com and on Sky Digital channel 0168, unconfirmed reports of the station getting a DAB licence, are yet to be confirmed.
On the 28-8-2008 Stormz announced that this would be the last show he will be presenting, he also went on to say that a new EP will be releasing prior to his album, and that he will continue to use the term 'Desi Soundclash' to describe his style and soundsystem roadshow.
Future shows will be announced via the radio stations website or stormz.co.uk. The Desi Soundclash Show racked in up to 150,000 listeners every week and is one of the longest Bhangra shows that has been broadcasted to a uk nationawide and worldwide audience, 1000+ shows have been hosted by Stormz,since 2002 - AUG 2008
Desi Soundclash Mixtape vol one is rumoured to be releasing soon hosted by Stormz and other asian MCS from the asian music scene.
LABEL
Stormz set up Toofan Entertainment Ltd to represent the asian underground/bhangra scene.His debut Bhangra album ep is set to be released on Toofan Entertainment followed by his official album.A number of other artists are also set to release their albums via the label, which is yet to be announced.
ALBUM
In Feb 2008 Stormz played two promos from his forthcoming EP on toofan entertainment, and a DnB track which is taken from an 'Untitled' album with another label. The album is due for release on Toofan Entertainment in 2008.
