White Hoe in the parish ofBraddan , near toDouglas, Isle of Man The Isle of Man government website contains an educational page on Kewaigue which includes this fascinating story of old:
The 17 children who resided in the area of
Quines Hill all failed to attend school on21 September 1893 . The reason given for their absence was the unsafe condition ofFairy Bridge . In wet weather the water of the Middle River flows over the bridge, the children got their feet wet in traveling to school. (The remains of the original Fairy Bridge can still be seen if you walk down the footpath at the side of Middle Farm. The newFairy Bridge was built on the main A5Castletown to Douglas road in Ballalonna Glen, below Ballalonna Bridge, for tourism reasons.)The school's population is still growing with the building of a new housing estate at
Mount Murray (Braddan and Santon).References
