- Goldenview Middle School
Goldenview Middle School is a middle school for grades 7 and 8 located in
Anchorage, Alaska with roughly 1000 students. Part of theAnchorage School District , Goldenview opened in 1997 after two years of construction and a total cost of $39 million. The school's name is derived from its panoramic “Golden View” that encompassesCook Inlet , Redoubt Volcano, Flattop Mountain andMount McKinley . As of 2004-5, 52 teachers teach at Goldenview. The current principal is Julie Maker with assistance from assistant principal Jane Johnson. The school mascot is the Sun.Activities
Goldenview offers several extracurricular activities including Youth Court, Drivers Ed, Athletics, Lunch Time Basketball, and Drama. The drama department often collaborates with Service High School and other communities to put on theatrical productions in the Goldenview auditorium. Goldenview has participated in many past joint productions include Crazy For You, The Music Man, Oklahoma!, The Wizard of Oz, Grease, Pirates of Penzance, and a recent one Seven Wives for Seven Brothers. A Gay-Straight Alliance has been proposed due to student hostilities between the two groups.
