Debian in 1997 and became an official developer in2001. He has since worked onuser support ,public representation ,security issues,quality assurance , integration tasks, as well asthe maintenance of packages, such asmdadm ,hibernate , andlogcheck . His current focus is onworkflows andprocess improvement .Under the supervision of Prof. Brian Fitzgerald and Dr. Kieran Conboy, Martinresearches [http://phd.martin-krafft.net/ the adoption and use of tools and technologies by Debian package maintainers] .He pursues a
Ph.D. degree as an external student of theUniversity of Limerick ,Ireland , partially funded byLero — the Irish Software Engineering Research Centre .He also spear-heads the [http://vcs-pkg.org vcs-pkg project] , an effort tointegrate
version control systems withsoftware package maintenance and to facilitatecollaboration between maintainers of the same
software package in different
distributions.Not very fond of
graphical user interfaces , Martin hacks on [http://netconf.alioth.debian.org netconf, a modern network configuration management system] in his spare time. Even though he comes at this project from a Debianperspective, he keeps a cross-distro focus and tries to get otherdistributions involved. netconf was aGoogle Summer of Code project in2008.Martin has spoken at several
conferences , includinglinux.conf.au ,FOSDEM ,DebConf ,FrOSCon , andLinuxTag . He also regularlypublishes articles on [http://madduck.net/blog/ his blog] .Martin graduated from
