- Nichiman
The Nichiman was a Nintendo clone. It could play Super Mario, Contra, and other games. It was top loaded, like the
Super Nintendo , rather than loaded like a VCR, as in the NES.It was used mainly in Latin American countries, particularly
Colombia .Cartridge Distribution
For the Colombia operations of Nichiman, one of the features was the that all the games fall into 4 categories: Special, A, B and C. An example of a game in the "special" category is
Super Mario Bros. 3 ;Ikari Warriors was C category. All games could be exchanged for another game in the same category, for a fraction of the cost.
Hardware changes
Nichiman came with 2 controllers, hard-wired to the console. There where 2 main differences with the NES original controllers:
- Both controllers have the Start and Select buttons.
- Above the regular A and B buttons, there were Turbo buttons for each one.The connection with the television was using an RF antenna attached to the console and an RF receiver in the television set. The last also came with a manual switch between television signal and the RF signal from the console.
