Adam Commens

Adam Commens

Adam David Commens (born 6 May 1976 in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales) is a former field hockey midfielder from Australia, who was a member of the team that won the bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.

Commens was nicknamed "Billy" by his team mates, and played his 100th international match for "The Kookaburras" against Malaysia at the 2002 Men's Hockey World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, where Australia finished second behind Germany. He is described by experts as a solid, effective ball getter with great skills who can create opportunities for his strikers. Commens played an integral role in the historic Junior World Cup victory in 1997, and was promoted to the senior squad that same year. He earned a total number of 143 caps (20 goals) for Australia.

Commens was named head coach of the Belgium national field hockey team on 4 July 2007. Commens was coach and a key player of the Royal Antwerp Hockey Club (RAHC). His new assistant will be Murray Richards.
