The city was the
castle town of Kameyama Castle, which belonged to theIse-Kameyama Domain . In the early 1600s, it also hostedKameyama-juku , the forty-sixth post station of Tōkaidō. Because it merged with the former town of Seki onJanuary 11 ,2005 , the formerSeki-juku also falls within its borders.Candles are a traditional product of the city.Sharp Corporation has been operating one of the world's largest LCD factories in the city sinceJanuary 8 ,2004 .
