Renee Cipriano is the former director of the
Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. She currently works as alobbyist in the private sector. Her successor is Doug Scott.As the director of the Illinois EPA under the tenure of
Rod Blagojevich , she was adamantly for more stringent controls on mercury levels ingroundwater . She testified in 2005 in an EPA hearing, stating that the federal proposal was "too lax and must be tightened".She currently works (along with two formerly of Blagojevich's staff, as well as former EPA director
Mary Gade ) sunder contract forAmeren as a lobbyist, working to allow higher levels of mercury in wastewater from local coal-fired power plants, directly against Blagojevich, who seeks to impose the most stringent laws in the country onmercury pollution .Ethics laws bar state employees from working for companies they regulated for a year after leaving office, although this law doesn't apply to Cipriano's new position.
