Rao Sheoji

Rao Sheoji

Rao Seoji was a Rajput belonging to the Rathore clan. His father was Setram Rathore.

History

Rao Sheoji fought many battles against his own relatives and was responsible for killing many of them. This prompted him to undertake a pilgrimage to Dwarka. On the way to Dwarka, he received customary hospitality from families belonging to the Chavda and Solanki clans of Rajputs. During his return journey, he married the daughter if a Chavda nobleman. She gave birth to three sons: Rao Asthan, Rao Sonag and Rao Ajay.

Later, Sheoji undertook a pilgrimage to Pushkar. The Brahmans of Bhinmal near Pushkar requested his assistance against the depredations of the Muslim ruler of Multan. Sheoji defeated an army of the ruler of Multan and signed a treaty stipulating that the town of Bhinmal and adjoining areas would not be plundered by them in future. Sheoji himself returned to Badayun/Kannauj but his sons remained behind at Pali.

Sheoji's death is confirmed by a stone inscription in the village of Vithu near the town of Pali in Rajasthan, according to which he died on Monday, 9th October 1273.
