EOSDIS

EOSDIS

EOSDIS is the Earth Observing System Data Information System. It consists of several different components to collect, store , retrieve and process information which is captured from a number of different satellites currently orbiting Earth.

Currently EOSDIS is managing extraordinarily large amounts of data. Here is a list of all of the satellites EOSDIS currently serves and an estimate of the amount of data coming in daily for each (if available):

* EOS Missions
** Landsat 7 - 7GB/Day
** Terra - 194GB/Day
** QuickSCAT
** ACRIMSAT
* Pre-EOS Missions
** UARS
** SeaWIFS
** TOMS-EP
** TOMSEX/Posiedon
** TRMM
* All Earth Science legacy data

The total amount of Earth science data held by NASA is about 284 Terabytes. The EOSDIS system has nearly doubled the amount of science data which NASA holds in the past few years.

All of the Earth science data is available to the public.
