The Invisible Universe Foundation

The Invisible Universe Foundation (IUF) is dedicated to researching and promoting the history of African Americans in speculative fiction (SF) literature, cinema and related art forms through the activities of archiving, publishing, and producing media materials and presenting cultural events.

The IUF was founded in 2005 by M. Asli Dukan.

Past events

On February 18, 2006, the Invisible Universe Foundation held its first event, the Invisible Universe Foundation Speculative Fiction Conference (IUFSFC) in collaboration with the Media and Communication Arts Department at The City College of New York in New York City. The theme of the IUFSFC 2006 conference was Black Vampirism. The special guest was L. A. Banks, author of The Vampire Huntress novels who read from and talked about her work with the audience. Panelists included Dr. Frances Gateward, professor of film studies and author, Jason Scott Jones, vfx artist and filmmaker, Kara Lynch, professor of film studies and filmmaker and Mike Sargent, filmmaker and radio talk show host at WBAI in New York City. The producer and director of the upcoming, feature-length documentary, [http://www.invisibleuniversedoc.com/ Invisible Universe] , M. Asli Dukan, previewed a trailer of her film and she also moderated the panel on Black Vampirism.

Upcoming events

The next IUFSFC is scheduled for 2008 in New York City.
