Sutler wagons were wagons selling provisions, owned and operated by
civilians , that followedmilitary troops. These offered supplementary food and other goods to soldiers who had money and were dissatisfied by military provided provisions. They were common during theAmerican Civil War , especially on the Union or Federal side.
