Sonali Gulati

Sonali Gulati is an award-winning filmmaker and an Assistant Professor in Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Photography & Film. She encourages her filmmaking students to understand how their personal identity relates to their creative work by asking them "Why are "you" making "this" film?"

Gulati is originally from New Delhi, India [http://www.alumnae.mtholyoke.edu/quarterly/win06/outsourcing1.php] . She received her B.A. in Critical Social Thought from Mount Holyoke College in 1996 and M.F.A. in Film & Media Arts from Temple University in 2004. She has made several short films that have screened at over 200 film festivals worldwide.She has won awards and grants from foundations such as the Third Wave Foundation and the World Studio Foundation.

Her award-winning 2005 documentary film, "Nalini by Day, Nancy by Night" explores business process outsourcing in India. Her latest film "24 frames per day" was screened at the prestigious Slamdance Film Festival in park City Utah in January 2008.
