Jagmohanlal Sinha (born
12 May ,1920 -20 March ,2008 ) was a formerIndia n Permanent Judge. He was known mostly for his 1975 ruling on the election of then Indian Prime Minister,Indira Gandhi , in which he declared the election invalid. Events that followed his decision resulted in the Prime Minister declaring a state of emergency inIndia .He was educated at Government High School in
Aligarh , atBareilly College inBareilly , and atMeerut College inMeerut . He began his law practice as apleader in Bareilly from 1943 to 1955. After that, he worked as District Government Counsel (Criminal) Bareilly until3 June ,1957 . He has also worked as a Civil & Sessions Judge, Additional District Judge, District & Sessions Judge and Joint Secretary of the Law Department of the U.P. Govt. On3 January ,1970 , he was appointed as an Additional Judge of theAllahabad High Court . On25 August ,1972 , he was appointed Permanent Judge. He finally retired from service in 1982.He died at the age of 87 due to age related problems in
