PROGETTAPS

PROGETTAPS or Generation and Transfer of Agricultural Technology and Seed Production (by its Spanish initials) was a program of agricultural development for Guatemala. The program was developed and administered by IFAD and funded by the IDB. The program operated from 1986 to 1993 and cost about $25 million.

The general idea of the program was to foster research and extension linkages between Guatemalan research institutes and rural farmers that could benefit from improved seed varieties (higher yielding varieties).

Success of the program appears to have been mixed, apparently some connections were made between the research institutions and some farmers did benefit, but the continues functioning of the program is dependent on external funding.
